Round One Starting Times & Pairings
Below is information pertaining to the tournament, which contains valuable information to help you plan your trip and will serve as a reference throughout the Championship.
Tournament Information
Format: Practice Rounds will be played on Monday, August 5th, followed by the Players Welcome Reception, Dinner and Ryan Lee Scholarship Presentation. Tournament play will begin on Tuesday, August 6th. All participants will play 18 holes of stroke play on Tuesday, August 6th and Wednesday, August 7th. There will be an awards ceremony and trophy presentation following the conclusion of play on Wednesday at approximately 6:15 p.m.
Note: The golf course will not be available for additional practice rounds before Monday, August 5th. The course and all practice facilities will also be closed for maintenance on Sunday, August 4th.
Players arriving on Sunday, August 4th who wish to practice or play can visit the Lyman Orchards Golf Course (approx. 20 minutes from New Haven CC), which has a driving range and short game area. The address is 70 Lyman Road, Middlefield, CT 06455.
Registration: All players are required to register upon their arrival, and they will receive their tournament gifts at that time. Registration will be available during the following times:
Monday, August 5th: 8:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Porch next to Locker Room)
Monday, August 5th: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (Reception area next to Putting Green)
Tuesday, August 6th: 6:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Porch next to Locker Room)
Starting Times: Starting Times and Pairings for the first round of play on Tuesday, August 6th will be e-mailed to all players approximately one week prior to the tournament, and will be available on the tournament website at NorthernJunior.com. Round 2 starting times will be determined by scores from Round 1, with the leaders going off last on Wednesday. Starting times will be from 7:00a.m. to approximately 1:30 p.m. on both days. Please make sure that you are available to play at any time on both tournament days.
Please do not request a specific starting time or group, as we will be unable to accommodate your request. Due to summer weather circumstances beyond our control (thunderstorms and/or rain), we may have to suspend play, continue play the following morning or use a shotgun format for starting times.
Practice Rounds: All players will be entitled to one complimentary practice round on Monday, August 5th at New Haven Country Club, free of charge. Players may play their practice round any time after 9:30 a.m. The practice round is for players only, but spectators are permitted to walk along during the round (no caddies permitted). Monday Players Welcome Reception and Dinner: All players and guests are invited to attend the Players Welcome Reception and Dinner on Monday, August 5th beginning at 5:30pm. The dinner is complimentary for all players, and parents/guests are invited to attend at a cost of $30 per person (includes tax and gratuity), which can be paid at the door. Dress will be golf course casual (collared shirt, golf shorts/skirts or pants). There will be a Long Drive Contest beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. for all participants, with prizes for top finishers.

Tuesday Mini-Golf Contest & Ice Cream Sundae Bar: All players are invited to a mini-golf putting contest on the main putting green at New Haven Country Club beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will also be an ice cream sundae bar available.
Practice Facility: The practice range and short game area will be available for players beginning at 6:15am each tournament day. The practice range will also be available on a limited basis following each round. Please note that the practice range is Irons Only, and this rule will be strictly enforced by tournament officials.
Food & Beverage: Players will receive a complimentary lunch on each tournament day, which will be available beginning at 11:00 a.m. Bottled water and snacks will also be provided to all players throughout the golf course. The Snack Bar will also be available for all players, spectators and guests on a cash basis beginning at 11:00 a.m. each day.
Spectators: Spectators are encouraged to attend and admission is free. All spectators are required to stay in the rough or on the cart paths at all times and are not allowed to talk to players during the competition. Golf carts and spectator carts are not allowed without a government issued permanent handicap placard.
Player Communication: During the course of the championship, the Tournament Committee will utilize website and email to communicate suspensions of play, resumptions, delays in starting times, or any other matters of importance.
Rangefinders and GPS Systems: Rangefinders and GPS systems may be used and a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3.
Dress Code: New Haven Country Club has a strict dress code policy. All players and spectators are required to wear a collared shirt which must be tucked in at all times. Jeans are not allowed on property for players or spectators and hats must be worn in a traditional manner. Failure to comply with the dress code outlined above may result in disqualification.
Late to Tee (Rule 6-3): In accordance with USGA rules, any player who arrives late to their assigned tee time within five (5) minutes will have the opportunity to play and will be assessed a two stroke penalty. If the player arrives more than five (5) minutes late to their assigned tee time, they will be disqualified. There are NO exceptions to this rule and refunds will not be issued for disqualifications.
Withdrawals & Refund Policy: Any player wishing to withdraw must notify the tournament office at tournament@northernjunior.com by Friday, July 26th to receive a refund. Any requests for a refund after July 26th will be honored only in the case of an illness or injury (with a doctor’s notice), or death in the immediate family.
Every effort will be made to complete 36 holes of competition, but in the event that only 18 holes are completed due to weather, no refund will be issued. If no tournament rounds are completed due to weather, a refund of $95.00 will be issued to all players.
AJGA Performance Based Entry: The 2019 Boys Champion will receive eight (8) AJGA Performance Stars, the top five (5) finishers in the Boys Championship will receive four (4) AJGA Performance Stars, and the top ten (10) finishers in the Boys Championship will receive one (1) AJGA Performance Star.
The 2019 Girls Champion will receive eight (8) AJGA Performance Stars, the top three (3) finishes in the Girls Championship will receive four (4) AJGA Performance Stars, and the top five (5) finishers in the Girls Championship will receive one (1) AJGA Performance Star.
Tournament Invitations: The 2019 Boys Champion and Runner-Up will receive invitations to the 2020 International Junior Masters. Additionally, the Boys and Girls Champion will receive invitations to the 2020 North & South Junior, and the Boys Champion will receive an invitation to the 2020 Northern Amateur and 2019 Bobby Chapman Junior.
Prizes: Top finishers in the Boys and Girls Championship will receive prizes in the form of merchandise credit redeemable at the New Haven Country Club Golf Shop.
Other Information:
- Golf carts and spectator carts are not allowed without a government issued permanent handicap placard.
- Caddies are not permitted during tournament play
- Non-motorized push/pull carts are permitted

ELIGIBILITY: Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday on or before August 6th, 2019. All players must be an amateur golfer as defined by the USGA, and must not have entered their first year of college.
Players may gain entry into the 2019 Northern Junior Championship by one of the following ways:
1) By Meeting Entry Criteria and Completing Tournament Application
The first 67 Boys and 28 Girls applying by July 5th who meet a category will be accepted. Should spots be available after July 5th, selections will be made on a weekly basis to applicants meeting a criteria until the field is complete.
2019 Entry Criteria: Boys Criteria | Girls Criteria
International players or players with an exceptional playing resume who do not meet the listed criteria may request an At-Large invitation by completing an application form.
2) By Earning Spot through Local Qualifier
A local qualifier for the 2018 Northern Junior will be held on Thursday, July 25th at Whitney Farms Golf Course. The qualifier is open to the first 84 applicants. All applicants will be accepted on a strictly first-come, first-serve basis.

The Top 3 finishers in the Boys and Girls Championship will earn invitations to the IMG Junior World Championship -Florida Challenge.
Prizes: Top finishers in the Boys and Girls Championship prizes in the form of merchandise credit redeemable at the New Haven Country Club Shop.
