The championship field for the 22nd playing of the Northern Junior Championship presented by the Golf Performance Academy has been finalized, with players from twenty-seven different states and countries vying for the title. Connecticut has the most players of any state, with a total of twenty-seven players seeking to capture the Northern Junior title in their home state.

“Our tournament committee is truly excited to welcome an incredible group of top junior golfers from across the world to Connecticut for the 22nd Northern Junior Championship,” said Brent Paladino, Tournament Director. “Our field this year is our strongest yet, and we look forward to the Hartford Golf Club providing an outstanding test of their golfing abilities.”

The field includes a total of twenty-nine players ranked inside the top 500 of the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings, as well as many of the top ranked junior golfers from Connecticut. The majority of the field is comprised of players who earned a spot into the field via established exemption criteria, and the balance of the field was completed through two open qualifiers that were available to all age-eligible junior golfers.

Following practice rounds and an opening ceremony on Monday, August 5th, all players will play 18-holes of stroke play competition on Tuesday, August 6th and Wednesday, August 7th at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Connecticut. Tee times will run from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. both days, and the low 36-hole competitor in the Boys and Girls Championship will be declared the respective Champion.

Widely regarded as one of the top private clubs in New England, The Hartford Golf Club was founded in 1896 and features 27-holes that represent a combination of Donald Ross and Devereux Emmet design. The 22nd Northern Junior will mark the first time the championship has been held at The Hartford Golf Club, which will add to the club’s extensive history of hosting state and national championships. Most notably, the club has previously hosted a pair of USGA championships – the 2008 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, won by Lexi Thompson, and the 1996 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, won by John Miller. The club has also hosted ten Connecticut Amateur Championships, four Connecticut Open Championships and three New England Amateur Championships. The red course will be used for the championship proper and will play to a par of 35-36–71.

The Northern Junior Championship was established in 2002 in memory of Stan Trojanowski, father of Cindy Paladino and grandfather of Cody & Brent Paladino. Stan Trojanowski passed away in August, 2001 due to Mesothelioma, a form of cancer resulting from exposure to asbestos. A golfer and a U.S Marine Veteran, his personality and willingness to help others will never be forgotten in the people he met both on and off the golf course.

Full coverage and results will be available on the tournament website at NorthernJunior.com and via our Instagram and Facebook pages @NorthernJunior.
