Thank you for your interest in supporting the 23rd Northern Junior Championship! New Haven Country Club and the town of Hamden, Connecticut will be welcoming 84 of the top junior golfers representing nearly 30 states and countries. We greatly appreciate your willingness to support this prestigious event. The application to register for one or more volunteer shifts is at the bottom of the page.
Volunteers play an essential role in conducting a national championship and we sincerely appreciate those who generously donate their time. While there is no required minimum number of shifts — and we appreciate any time you can offer. Giving back to the game you love, and helping our community and players from around the world, will create lasting memories.
The following is a list of volunteer assignments available:
Stationary Scorers
- Scoring Stations – Collect scores from all groups after every 3-4 holes (one location) and record on a tablet device
- The device will transmit these scores to the tournament website, allowing for “live” championship scoring.
- Shifts: Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6 (AM and PM)
Standard Bearers
- Standard Bearers will accompany the leaders during the final round and will carry a scoring sign (standard) displaying each player’s score in relation to par. They will also record the hole-by-hole scores on a tablet device.
- Will require walking 18 holes carrying an 8 lb. scoring sign (standard).
- Shifts: Wednesday, August 6 (start at approximately 10:30 a.m.)
- Excellent opportunity for juniors
- Can have multiple individuals share duties for a single group
Forecaddies
- Volunteers will assist players and officials with locating balls during Championship play, spectator control on designated holes, and various areas throughout the golf course
- Shifts: Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6 (AM and PM)
Driving Range
- Greet players at Practice Range and Short Game Area and assist them in setting up their practice station
- Post player name plaques in player’s sign.
- Shifts: Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6 (AM and PM)
