Links: Current Championship Field

The championship field for the 20th playing of the Northern Junior Championship presented by Junior Golf Hub has been finalized, with players from thirty-three different states and countries vying for the title. Connecticut has the most players of any state, with a total of twenty-two players seeking to capture the Northern Junior title in their home state.

“We are truly excited to welcome an incredible group of junior golfers to Connecticut for the 20th Northern Junior Championship,” said Brent Paladino, Tournament Director. “Our field this year is our strongest and most geographically-diverse yet, and we look forward to Great River Golf Club providing an outstanding test of their golfing abilities.”

The field includes a total of seventeen players ranked inside the top 500 of the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings, as well as many of the top ranked junior golfers from Connecticut. The majority of the field is composed of players who earned a spot into the field via established exemption criteria, and the balance of the field was completed through two open qualifiers that were available to all age-eligible junior golfers.

All players will play 18-holes of stroke play on Tuesday, August 2nd and Wednesday, August 3rd at Great River Golf Club. Tee times will run from 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. both days, and the low 36-hole competitor in the Boys and Girls Championship will be declared the respective Champion. Benjamin James and Jieming Yang, the 2021 champions, are unable to defend their titles this year as they are nineteen years of age by the start of the championship. James, a Milford, Connecticut resident, is currently the #1 ranked junior golfer in the country and is committed to play golf at the University of Virginia this fall.

Great River Golf Club will be hosting its second Northern Junior, having previously hosted the championship in 2018, along with the New England Amateur Championship in 2021. The course was designed in 2001 by renowned architect Tom Fazio and is nestled along the picturesque banks of the Housatonic River. The course starts on a wooded parkland style front nine then turns onto a challenging modern links designed back nine where water comes into play on each hole. In 2015, the course was purchased by Sacred Heart University, who owns and operates the facility.

The Northern Junior Championship was established in 2002 in memory of Stan Trojanowski, father of Cindy Paladino and grandfather of Cody & Brent Paladino. Stan Trojanowski passed away in August, 2001 due to Mesothelioma, a form of cancer resulting from exposure to asbestos. A golfer and a U.S Marine Veteran, his personality and willingness to help others will never be forgotten in the people he met both on and off the golf course.

Full coverage and results will be available on the tournament website at NorthernJunior.com and via our Instagram and Facebook pages @NorthernJunior.
