The Northern Junior Championship is a nationally ranked junior golf tournament that was created in order to provide the highest level of competition for top junior players. The 36-hole stroke play event is contested over two days at New Haven Country Club in Hamden, Connecticut and is open to amateur boys and girls under the age of 19. Our goal is to provide the same first class championship experience and red-carpet treatment that the best national events around the country offer.
New for 2025: The total field size for the Northern Junior Championship will be 84 total players, comprised of 55 players in the Boys Championship and 29 players in the Girls Championship. The Entry Procedure and Criteria have been modified, and the Tournament Committee has also introduced the Race to the Northern Junior.
Format: All players will play 18-holes of stroke play on Tuesday, August 5th and Wednesday, August 6th at New Haven Country Club. Starting times will begin at 7:00 a.m. both tournament days. There will be an awards ceremony and trophy presentation following the conclusion of play on Wednesday at approximately 3:00pm.
Field Size: The total field size will be 84 players, comprised of 55 players in the Boys Championship and 29 players in the Girls Championship.
Divisions and Eligibility: There will be a Boys and Girls Championship Division, which is open to any male or female junior golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday on or before August 6th, 2025. All players must be an amateur golfer as defined by the USGA.
Tournament Entry Fee– Entry Fee of $325 includes complimentary practice round, two rounds of tournament play, players lunch both tournament days, player gifts and invitation to Welcome Reception on Monday, August 5th for a player plus one guest.

6:45 p.m. – Long Drive Contest presented by Golf Performance Academy
Note: Late registration is available for players who will not be able to register on Monday, August 4. For the purposes of confirming their intent to play, players must notify the tournament office at tournament@northernjunior.com if they will not be able to register on Monday, August 4.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. – Starting Times (Players will be paired by score, with leaders going off last. All play will be in threesomes.)

ELIGIBILITY: Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday on or before August 6, 2025. All players must be an amateur golfer as defined by the USGA.
APPLICATION PROCESS: There is no fee to submit a Championship Application. The deadline for submitting an application is Thursday, May 15. After the deadline, selections will be made via the below criteria and a waiting list will be established. Those players who are accepted to the field will have the option to accept or decline their spot, and will be required to pay the championship entry fee at that time to accept their place in the field.
ENTRY FEE- Entry Fee of $325 includes complimentary practice round, two rounds of tournament play, players lunch, player gifts and invitation to Players Dinner for the player plus one guest on Monday, August 4.
REFUND POLICY: Any player who is accepted to the Northern Junior and withdraws prior to Sunday, July 21st will receive their full entry fee refunded (less a $25 service fee). Any withdrawals between July 22 and July 31 will receive a 50% refund.
Entries for the 2025 Northern Junior Championship will open on Saturday, March 1st.
2025 Entry Criteria
1) Championship Application
There is no fee to submit a Championship Application. The deadline for submitting an application is Thursday, May 15. After the deadline, selections will be made via the below criteria and a waiting list will be established. Those players who are accepted to the field will have the option to accept or decline their spot, and should they accept, will be required to pay the championship entry fee at that time to confirm their place in the field.
The early application window will close on May 15th. At that time, the field will be selected by (i) any players meeting the automatic exemptions, and (ii) all applicants who applied using the Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking for selection criteria. A total of 25 spots will be reserved for the open qualifiers, Race to the Northern Junior, 2025 Boys/Girls Connecticut Junior Amateur Champion and sponsor exemptions.
Should withdrawals occur after the initial field is announced, the field will continue to be filled by the pool of applicants on the waiting list in order of JGS ranking. Players may apply after May 15th and be placed on the waiting list. The wait list will be constantly updated for both genders and the highest ranked player at the time the spot is made available will be offered a spot in the field.
Players may submit a championship application and also sign up for an Open Qualifier. If they are accepted, their entry fee for the qualifier will be refunded.
2) By Earning Spot through Open Qualifier
Two separate local qualifiers for the 2025 Northern Junior will be held on Sunday, June 8 at Wintonbury Hills GC (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Monday, July 14 at Triggs Memorial GC (Providence, R.I.). A total of 8 spots for the Boys Championship and 4 spots for the Girls Championship will be allocated between the two qualifiers.
3) The Race to the Northern Junior
The Race to the Northern Junior consists of junior events throughout the northeast in order to provide an additional pathway for local players to earn their way into the tournament field. Points will be awarded at each event for top finishers.
Following the conclusion of the Race to the Northern Junior, the top 5 Boys and top 3 Girls will be extended an invitation to compete in the Northern Junior. If one of the invitees has already accepted a spot in the field or declines the invitation, the next highest point finisher will be invited.
There is no fee or registration required to participate in the Race to the Northern Junior. Points will be tabulated based on the final results of each event, and at the conclusion of the Race to the Northern Junior, the top finishers will be contacted via e-mail to accept their spot in the 2025 Northern Junior.

Girls Champion: Twelve (12) AJGA Performance Stars

All players receiving AJGA performance stars from their finish in the tournament will have their status automatically updated by the AJGA within five business days.
Tournament Invitations
The International Junior Masters
The 2025 Boys & Girls Champion & Runner Up will receive an automatic invitation to the International Junior Masters, being contested in June, 2026 at East Aurora Country Club in East Aurora, New York.
The Southern Junior
The 2025 Boys Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2026 Southern Junior, being contested in June, 2026.
The Women’s Western Junior Championship
The 2025 Girls Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2026 Women’s Western Junior Championship, being contested in June, 2025.
Hudson Junior Invitational
The 2025 Boys Champion & Runner-Up will receive an automatic invitation to the 2026 Hudson Junior Invitational, being contested in June, 2026 at Country Club of Hudson in Hudson, Ohio.
Northern Amateur
The 2025 Boys Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2026 Northern Amateur, played at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
Hope Valley Junior Invitational
The Top 5 finishers in both the Boys and Girls Championship will earn invitations to the 2026 Hope Valley Junior Invitational at Hope Valley Country Club in Durham, North Carolina.
Rankings
The 2026 Northern Junior Championship will be nationally ranked by both the Junior Golf Scoreboard and the Junior Golf Hub Rankings.
