How did you start playing the game of golf?

I started playing the game of golf with my dad at home. At the time we had a large field that we used to hit balls into, practicing to different targets. We also marked out and played a small "almost golf" course around our house (something we continue to this day at our new house). As I got older, I started playing at Northfield Country Club, a small public 9 hole course not far from where we lived. My dad and I played a lot so I started to get weekly lessons from the club pro there. He encouraged me to keep playing and get into competition.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

Through my junior golf experience I have learned how to practice and focus. I used to practice for hours but it was never targeted towards anything .I would just hit balls and putt and hope that somehow I would get better. As I have gotten older, I have realized how important purposeful practice is. When practice does not have a focus or an intention, I do not gain anything from it. Now when I practice, I practice with a clear goal and try not to focus on an outcome, or do as I would do in a tournament, "practice like I play".
The game of golf has taught me many lessons as well. How to persevere. How to handle disappointment. It has given me the ability to have more confidence in many difficult and challenging situations in my life

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I will be playing collegiate golf at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. I hope to bring my team to a conference championship and on to the National Championship Tournament. My current goal in golf is to become ta competitive player in my college conference for this coming season.

A career aspiration related to golf would be a golf coaching position at the University of Vermont. They currently do not have a D1 program at UVM and I would love to start something new, especially where I grew up. They have a nice course right on campus and I also have some allies I could team up with in coaching. This is just one example of what I could do with the game of golf. I enjoy teaching/coaching and mentoring other players and fostering a passion for the game.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

This is a difficult question for me. Currently I am an undecided major. I chose Allegheny College as it is a small liberal studies college and as one of the 40 "Colleges That Change Lives" it requires a student to have both a major, and an unrelated minor, to graduate. I will be exposed to many areas of study and will also have the opportunity to continue playing music and play collegiate golf. At this time, I do not have a set "career goal".I have many interests and skills and am planning on my college experience to provide opportunities and direction toward building a career of my choice.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

Growing up, my dad used to take me to the driving range often. Although I enjoyed it once in a while, I didn’t really have much interest in golf until I got older. When I was 12, as a very competitive person, I started to have a burning desire to get better at the game. I began participating in the Junior League with Suzy Whaley and shortly after started taking private lessons with her. She and her husband, Bill Whaley, really ignited my passion for the game and encouraged me to start playing competitively. They helped me to not only develop the skills I needed, but helped me to build a mindset that would allow me to appreciate and love golf both for recreation and as a competitive sport.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

Golf has taught me to not be so results-oriented. In golf, and in life, a person can face failure despite doing everything in their power to achieve a goal. This fact is something that is extremely frustrating and often seems unfair. When someone hits a good shot, it seems wrong that it could get a bad kick or land in a divot smack dab in the middle of the fairway. But in reality, in all walks of life, good efforts aren’t always rewarded. Golf has taught me not to let a short-term outcome, such as the outcome of one tournament or one exam be the only measure of one’s success. Rather, golf and life should be viewed as a process. If a person knows that they are consistently working hard and working efficiently, they should not feel like a failure because they didn’t shoot the score or get the grade they wanted on a given day. This mindset that I have developed through my junior golf experience has helped me to be more resilient in the face of challenges by embracing mistakes as a part of the journey rather than allowing myself to be discouraged by them. I know this will be of huge importance to me in college and beyond.

Also, my junior golf experience has truly been invaluable in developing who I am as a person. First of all, it has taught me a lot about sportsmanship and leadership. Through consistent practice demonstrating integrity on the course, I have developed the ability to establish myself as someone who is responsible and trustworthy in all areas of my life. I have learned that setting a good example by having a respectful attitude and following rules with the utmost honesty and integrity has an extremely positive impact on those around you, and makes you a person that others want to look up to. This is something I’m thankful to apply not only on the golf course but in my academic, volunteer, and other personal experiences.

Finally, I have learned through golf that confidence is key to overcoming challenges. There have been times on the course where even though my skills were on-point, my lacking confidence kept me from playing to my potential. I have come to understand that regardless of talent-level, belief in oneself is the most important component that is necessary for success.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I aspire to be a leading member of the Quinnipiac Women’s Golf Team during the next few years. I want to not only help the team to win championships and move up the national rankings, but also demonstrate the leadership needed to enhance team dynamics. After college, I intend to compete as an amateur so I can continue to enjoy and learn from the game, and also be involved in junior golf so I can help encourage and inspire young competitors.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

I want to work in a STEM profession, likely Software Engineering. I believe a job in the STEM field would allow me to solve problems in order to enhance the lives of many people.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

One afternoon, when I was 11 years old, I was staying over my cousin's house for the night. My uncle set up a cardboard box about 20 yards away and he challenged me and my cousin to try and get it as close as we can to the box. I had played with golf clubs around the house, but had never considered the game beyond tinkering around in the basement. He gave us a set of clubs and I immediately fell in love with the challenge of trying to get the ball as close as I could to the target. My uncle gave me that set of clubs and I began playing golf seriously. My occasional trips to the local driving range progressed to tournament play on actual golf courses. I caught the golf bug that afternoon and, ever since, it has taken me to where I am today.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

I have learned some great lessons throughout my career as a junior golfer. The most important trait it has taught me is resilience. Golf is one of the most frustrating sports because it tests your mental stamina to the extreme. Whether it is a bad score in a round or moving forward to the next hole after a hole that seemed to go on forever, it can be challenging to start fresh and stay positive. Walking to the next tee is one of the hardest things you can do, but it is also like that in life. No matter what you are going through, whether in life or on on the golf course, you have to move on and play that next hole. I appreciate how junior golf has given me the opportunity to grow as a person and there is no doubt that it will continue to help me beyond the game.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

My first goal when I entered junior golf was to be able to play golf in college. I am happy to say that I will be achieving that dream when I attend Skidmore College in the fall. Beyond that, I would like to take my talents as far as they go. I hope for a successful career in college and to try my best to make it into the world of golf. If that does not happen, I plan on finding a career in what I study in college which is still up in the air. That is why Skidmore is a good fit for because it has a diverse curriculum that will allow me to find my interests.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

As stated earlier, I do not have a firm direction in where I would like my career to go, but I will be able to find my interests with college this year. As of right now, my academic interests lead me to a major within History or English while in college

How did you start playing the game of golf?

I started playing the game of golf because my older brother, Matt, took up the game when he was young. I used golf as a way to connect with him and have some healthy competition. Matt became a very good player and someone who I looked up to, and I used this as motivation to improve upon my own game and catch up with his abilities. Neither of our parents play golf, so hopefully me and my brother will introduce the game to our families in the future.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

I have learned more from the game of golf than I could ever be taught in a classroom. The gentlemanly nature of the game has taught me to act respectfully towards others, to be responsible with myself, and to embody the idea of integrity that the game is built upon. However, there are some other things I have learned that are just as important as such common courtesies. First, I have learned to use failures as building blocks instead of setbacks. Failures should be something we look back to not to dwell upon, but instead to learn from. Golf is the most difficult game in the world, and it is impossible to master. Therefore, we will experience failures every round we play, and the true measure of success in golf and in life is not how well we preform at our best, but how we respond to our failures. Secondly, I have learned not to try to control the uncontrollable. In golf, there are so many variables that we have no control over; the weather, the lie, the bounces, and many more. Golf has taught me to focus on what I can control and not waste energy worrying about things that I cannot change. Lastly, golf has taught me to enjoy experiences, positive and negative. Golf is a humbling game, and even though I will never make a living of it, I am extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to play at a high level of junior an amateur competition. While playing golf, I make sure to take in my surroundings and enjoy the company of my partners, and be grateful for the opportunities that the game of golf has presented me.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I will be playing on the Hamilton College golf team for the next four years, and I am looking forward to embracing the challenges that come with being a college golfer. I will work on my game every day, while balancing my schoolwork, athletics, and social life. After college, I aspire to be a good amateur player and compete in as many events throughout my life as I can. I hope to have a family and pass along my love for golf to my children, and watch them use the game to grow as a person just as I did.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

I plan on studying biology at Hamilton College and then going to medical school and pursue being a physician. I have always wanted to work in the medical field because I want to dedicate my career to bettering the lives of others. It takes a lot of dedication and patience in order to become a doctor, but I believe I have the drive to succeed and will hopefully find my career to be very rewarding. My goal in life is to make positive changes in peoples lives, large and small, every day I go to work

How did you start playing the game of golf?

I started playing golf at the age of 8. Both my parents are avid golfers and my older sister played competitive junior golf. The game did not seem exciting from the outside. My parents gifted me a junior golf set on my 8th birthday but did not push me to start playing. I decided to go to the range with my family one day, as I did not want to be left out. Once I started to swing at the ball I realized how difficult it was to connect! My competitive spirit stepped in and I was determined to work hard and master the game. Luckily I started loving the game and put in a lot of hard work and determination which worked well.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

From an early age my entire world was two things, my family and golf. I realized from a young age I loved competing whether it be soccer, swimming or golf. Golf provided me the opportunity to partake in activities I enjoyed. Most importantly, golf has taught me how to have the necessary discipline, focus and grit. All these attributes I use in my daily life. Golf has taught me the important lesson that everything around you cannot be controlled. As somewhat of a perfectionist, golf has humbled me and made me realize, like life, nothing can be perfect. I am so thankful for everything golf has taught me and shaped me into the woman I am today.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I am certain, golf will always be a part of my whole life. I look forward to playing collegiate golf at Williams College at the highest level. Our teams goal is to win the NCAA Division III championship. I will also continue mentoring young girls to take up this amazing life long sport and work towards promoting girls golf in general.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

This coming Fall I will be attending Williams College where I plan to major in Political Economy. I hope to study and understand how economic theory and methods influence and develop different social and economic systems. After graduating, I plan to attend Law School and get my Juris Doctor degree.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

I started playing the game when I was around 8. My dad used to take me out to play a couple holes but always took me home when I was starting to have fun so then I would want to go back out again. Little did I know at the time, that it was his tactic to get me interested and excited about the game. Thanks to him, I will be playing on the women's golf team at Lehigh University this coming fall.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

Throughout my junior golf career, I have seen a lot and experienced a lot. But overall, I can take away that golf, even though it may seem so important, that it is only a game. It has shown me that you can get bad breaks from good shots and good breaks from bad shots, just like in real life. But mostly always look at things in perspective and that you can not change the past but only work harder now and in the future while maintaining a positive outlook.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I hope to use the game of golf to create and sustain relationships on and off the course. I am going be an undecided major as of now but I am leaning towards business and/or economics. Golf can help me make those relationships in business even more special. But with my own golf game, my goals will remain the same: work on your weakness to become stronger.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

My career aspiration is to have a job that I love so much that it doesn't feel like work, more of a passion. During this summer, I was an intern at a non-profit called Hope Funds for Cancer Research. I had been volunteering since I was a freshman in high school. My evolvement was due to a close family member's death due to rare type of cancer. I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a in intern for the summer. While interning, I have learned that even though you may not see the results right away, just keep after it. Even though I do not want to go into the science aspect of cancer research, the business side fascinates me. My goals in life are to be well rounded with an MBA, and being as active as possible in the community around me.

During my sophomore year, I was awarded the National K12 Ceramic Foundation Inc. Award of Excellence in Ceramic Art. Outside of school, I have a part time job at Banana Republic, volunteered and now intern at Hope Funds, and until this year I had been volunteering at a garden center called James Maher Center, which employed adults with developmental disabilities. But unfortunately the program at the Center had been discontinued due to lack of funding.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

We were on vacation on Martha's Vineyard and my mother overheard someone on the beach mention that Farm Neck Golf Club has a good junior golf program, so she signed me up. My grandmother bought me a starter golf set on eBay and for several summers, I participated in the junior golf program at Farm Neck. I loved the game and kept asking to go back to the course. Finally, one of the coaches suggested to my parents that I start playing in tournaments. Neither of my parents play golf and initially did not belong to a golf club, so as I progressed as a golfer, they used to drop me off at public courses and I would play with all ages. I learned from watching the pros on TV and from all of the people I played with until I started getting more formal coaching.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

I extend my hand and shake. In the golf community, I start and end every round this way. I have learned to demonstrate sportsmanship and respect. Playing mostly as a single, I often get randomly paired with different types of people from many walks of life, and of varying abilities and ages. Over the course of walking 18 holes with network producers, retirees, restaurant owners, college students, and teachers, I have learned valuable life lessons. On and off the course, I love to participate in social activities, build relationships, and make connections. I’m always open to meeting people and giving and taking advice. I try to empower others I encounter to have a better day with my energetic and welcoming demeanor and greeting. As I head into the future, I will bring my kind, caring, and friendly attitude, as well as my firm handshake.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

In a few weeks, I will head off to start my freshman year at Emory University in Atlanta where I will join one of the top-ranked Division III men's golf programs in the nation. Over the course of my four years in college, I aspire to play as many tournaments as possible, proudly representing the Emory Eagles. I hope to make and win the NCAA Division III National Championships both as a team and as an individual. I aspire to win Golf All-America Honors as well as All-Region and All-America Scholar recognition in my time at Emory. In addition, I would love to play golf professionally after college.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

I plan to major in business at Emory with a minor in Film Studies and/or Nutrition Science. I am interested in a career in private equity. I am particularly interested in food-related businesses since I have had food allergies since I was an infant. If I don't go into private equity, I am also interested in being a Film & Media Business Executive. I produced the senior video for my high school class and have been a Teaching Assistant in the TV/Video Department at Wellesley High School for the past two years. My older sister lives and works in Los Angeles at a talent agency and I would love to join her, perhaps becoming an Executive Producer or Showrunner in the entertainment industry.

My fundraising efforts including sending over 75 emails to family and friends. I reached out to golf trainingmates and former teammates from basketball and baseball teams as well as many family friends and relatives. I focused on reaching people in different states so that I could expand my reach. In every case, I shared my challenges with food allergies. In addition, instead of a holiday gift this past season, I asked my grandparents to donate to AJGA Leadership Links. I put many hours into sending the emails, replying to the emails, and writing thank you notes to each donor. I also kept track of the number of birdies I achieved in tournaments so that I could raise more money. In all, I raised almost $8K from over 50 donors and I tallied 72 birdies. Raising money for food allergy research is personal and meaningful to me as I have benefitted tremendously from experimental treatments to overcome food allergies. I was fortunate to be a top fundraiser for the AJGA Leadership Links program this past year and had the amazing opportunity to play a round of golf with Rickie Fowler. It was once of the most memorable golf experiences I have ever had. Rickie was so generous with this time and spirit and inspired me.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

I originally started playing golf through junior clinics at a local golf course 5-6 years ago. Once I started getting more control of my swing, I became hooked and strived to improve even more. What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

The whole mental aspect of this game gives me the confidence to be successful in any endeavor.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

Our neighbor's kids played golf. Their dad was on the board of the local golf club. They are exactly the same age as me and my brother. We always played outside with them when we were young and we always wondered what they were doing with those bags and clubs that got loaded into their parent's car on weekends. So one day, we asked them if we could come along and try golf out ourselves. We instantly loved it and everything else developed from there. Funny enough, they don't play anymore, but my brother and me moved to the US to take a shot at making it in golf.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

There are many things. The main lesson I feel however is to play the ball as it lies and to focus on the next shot. On the course and in life. I can not completely control what will happen in a round of golf and in life, but I can control how I react to what is happening. My reaction will detemine the ultimate outcome, more than what has happened or will happen to me. Shortly after moving to the US from my native Germany in 2017, to advance my dream of playing Division 1 golf, I found out that I had a serious back injury that needed surgery. I had left all my friends and previous life behind and had joined a full day golf academy, where I would have school in the morning and play golf in the afternoon. This was supposed to help me make my golf dream come true. My dream, however, evaporated almost instantly when I received the diagnosis two months after starting at the academy. Back then, my world was falling apart and I could have given up, on life and on golf, but I didn't. I eventually got the surgery done and had to pause for a year. I still have some pain, but I play again competitively. I recently even placed 3rd at a large event and am back on track earning a D1 team spot. I could not change what had happened to me, but It was my choice to either give up or go on, to WD or to play the ball as it lies and to focus on the next shot.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I am striving to get a spot on a D1 college team at an institution that is not only great in golf but is also academically challenging. Ideally and Ivy League school. Unfortunately, they don't have athletic scholarships and are expensive to attend. Once there, I, of course, would love to make it with my team to regionals and nationals and win. That would be the icing on the cake. After college, I will see how my health develops. My initial goal was to make it to the LPGA tour. Time will tell if that dream is still achievable. Right now, I focus on the next shot.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

If golf as a career does not work out, I would like to go into medicine or psychology. I have learned first hand how much you can help people if you are good in your job in those professions. I think my competitive and ambitious attitude would help me become a good doctor and would allow me to help many people that may be going through similar situations to what I had to go through. I would like to make a positive impact on people that struggle. I am also very social and compassionate. So the medical profession and being with people seems like a great plan B.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

When I was roughly ten years old, my neighbor suggested that I try out The First Tee, which is a golf camp for young kids that emphasizes the different aspects of sportsmanship as well as learning golf skills. I figured I would try it out since I was never any good at the other sports I had previously tried. I did the spring session at Alling Memorial Golf Course during 2011, and absolutely fell in love with the game. I started taking lessons that summer, and was progressing quickly. I played my first tournament in May, 2012. It was a 12 & Under Junior PGA tournament at Willowbrook Golf Course, and, to my amazement, I somehow shot a 34 (par 30). This was my best round by far at the time, and it inspired me to play in more tournaments and continue to improve.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

I have learned that golf is a microcosm of life. The game teaches you patience, competitiveness, maturity, thoughtfulness, sportsmanship, and so much more. Golf has allowed me to become a much calmer person and realize that some situations are not worth stressing over because, after all, golf is just a game. Years of competitive junior tournaments have completely transformed my mental toughness, on and off the course. Just as importantly, golf has allowed me to become much more social. As a child, I was extremely shy and timid, even with my peers. I am very grateful to have met so many great friends through golf.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I will be playing Division-1 Golf at Lehigh University in the fall. At Lehigh, I hope to play as many tournaments as I can and continue to improve. I want to qualify individually, if the team does not qualify, for NCAA nationals at least once. After college, I would like to pursue a professional career via Q-School and Monday Qualifiers.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

I will be studying business at Lehigh University. I plan to graduate with a business degree so I have an alternative career path if a professional career does not work out. I would still want to be involved in golf somehow, however, as I have an immense passion for the game.

Describe your applicable scholastic accomplishments and community service involvement

I graduated Hamden High School with a 3.7 GPA in my coursework, which included 9 Advanced Placement classes. During my freshman year, I was named one of the Superintendent's Students of the Month.
In regards to community service, I was a participant/helper for my school’s Unified Gym class (for children with special needs) during my sophomore year. I made many new friends, and enjoyed traveling with the class after school to interscholastic basketball tournaments. Additionally, throughout high school, I participated as a coach for the Hero Division (also for children with special needs) of the Hamden Regional Youth Basketball League. I have volunteered in the division for the three years it has existed, and it has helped me become much more positive, aware, and selfless. As a volunteer, I assisted the players through various drills, exercises and games, encouraged them to put forth their best effort, and celebrated their successes.

These experiences help me have a much more positive outlook on life, and inspire me to continue to help people.

How did you start playing the game of golf?

I started playing golf when I was five years old when I began going to the driving range with my Dad, then once he thought I could hit the ball far and straight enough he brought me out to the course. Once I showed my enjoyment of the game my parents put me into The First Tee of Connecticut, where I was taught the etiquette of the game and improved my swing.

What have you learned through your junior golf experience that you will take with you into the future?

One of the most important life skills I have learned from the game of golf, that I believe anyone can benefit from and use daily, is the idea of handling and dealing with adversity. I have many examples of having to deal with adversity out on the course, whether it be having one bad hole or many consecutive bad holes. I try to tell myself that you can't change your last shot you can only move forward and change your next shot. With this I have come to realize that rather than just making instinctual decisions and compounding your mistakes it is important to take your time and think about how you can improve from the past by making smart decisions. I find that being able to not give up and bouncing back helps me on the course and will help me in life.

What are your career aspirations and goals related to golf?

I want to see how good a player I can become in college and beyond. My short term goal is to contribute to the Bentley University golf team as soon as possible, then keep getting better. After college I hope to be able to continue playing golf as part of of my business career. I find that you meet all sorts of interesting people on the golf course, and with a common bond of golf that seems like a great way to build personal and business relationships.

What are your career aspirations and goals not related to golf?

After graduating from Bentley with a combined major of finance and economics, I plan to then begin learning and working in the business field in either Boston or New York City.
